Benji urgently needs a foster home

Why is fostering needed?

My young adult son is no longer able to keep his adopted poodle/lab mix. He is on the brink of taking him back to the SPCA as a surrender because we’re unable to find a foster environment. I’m involved because I don’t want to see Benji returned to the scary place he came from. Benji is 3 years old/22 lbs, fixed and is up to date on his shots. He was adopted from the SPCA 7 months ago. It was disclosed that he came from a hoarding situation but only after he got home and the paper work released on Benji did we learn that he’d been re-homed 3 times before his adoption by my son in August. Benji suffers from the lack of trust, human interaction and touch. If he were to get away/escape, no one would be able to place their hands on him; he’s that afraid of touch. He gets along really well with other dogs but has issues with most men. He’s been through a reactive training class to which we learned he’s super smart. He’s an aggressive chewer. He also has a sensitive stomach that causes him to need a prescription diet and and still has house training issues. He requires human tethering 24/7 to keep him out of trouble and likes his crate when he’s left alone although he cannot have bedding because he will chew it and eat it. I cannot take Benji because he doesn’t like my husband and Benji does not get along with my cat and tries to attack when she’s around. It’s my hope that someone can help that’s not a shelter situation and help Benji find a mature owner that has experience with dogs that have life-long traumatic issues.

How long is fostering needed for?

Until a forever home for pet is found

Other notes

Benji is a 3 year old poodle/lab mix about 22 lbs. He came from a hoarding environment and we’ve learned he’s been rehomed 3 times in his short life. Benji for the most part is afraid of human touch but once you earn his trust, he is a love bug. He does not like most men and cats are a hard NO. He gets along very well with other dogs. He is crate trained but requires human tethering when unsupervised as he is an aggressive chewer and still has house training manners that need work. Benji needs someone that has experience with dogs that started life in a hoarding situation and has the time to dedicate to his success.
